How to Pause WHOOP Membership (Complete Guide)
If you’ve landed here, chances are you’re looking for information on how to pause your WHOOP membership.
Life is unpredictable, and sometimes we need to take a break from certain commitments. Whether it’s due to a hectic schedule, an upcoming trip, or finances are tight for the month, sometimes pausing your WHOOP can be a more sensible move than cancelling your membership.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to freeze your WHOOP subscription as well as some nuances, and problems that may arise.
WHOOP Membership Pausing Policy: Explained
Before we go over how to freeze your WHOOP membership, it’s first important to understand their policy, because honestly, it’s a bit confusing.
Criteria Required to Pause
Not everyone is eligible to pause their WHOOP subscription. In order to do so, you must meet the following conditions:
- Active Payment: You need to be actively paying for your membership.
- No Current Commitment: If you’re in the midst of a commitment period (the initial 12-month membership), you won’t be able to pause your account. This goes for monthly membership as well! After this period, or if you’ve extended your membership for another 12 months, you can pause it as long as it’s not a non-refundable plan.
- Time Since Last Pause: If you have paused your account within the past 12 months, you’ll be ineligible for another pause.
- Non-Pro Members: If you’re a WHOOP Pro member, the pause feature is not available to you.
The biggest take-away from this is that if you’re in your first 12 month window of owning your WHOOP, you are not eligible to pause your membership, regardless of your plan. You must wait until your commitment period (the first 12 months) is over.
Duration and Billing
Once eligible, you can pause your membership for up to three consecutive months, and you’re allowed to do so once every 12 months.
If you decide to cancel while your account is paused, you’ll have to first unpause it to proceed with cancellation.
Billing and data upload will automatically resume once the account is reactivated.
How to Pause WHOOP Membership
To temporarily pause your WHOOP membership, follow these instructions:
- Login to your WHOOP account.
- Click the menu, then select “Membership“.
- Press “Pause Membership“.
- Choose the duration you’d like to pause for, then confirm. Your account will be paused the same day.
Does WHOOP Collect Data When Paused?

In order for you WHOOP strap to collect data, your membership needs to be active.
Common Issues and Troubleshooting
There are instances where members have reported problems, such as an error message when trying to pause or unexpected charges.
Keep in mind that Whoop will not refund any processed membership charges even if you successfully pause later. If you experience any issues, it’s advisable to contact Membership Services for a tailored solution.
